Family Services Worker - Out of School Time Program

Department: C&FS Education
Location: Lowell, MA

The Family Service Worker is responsible for providing entry level case management to clients and their families. The Family Service Worker works closely with families and classroom staff to promote family engagement and school readiness.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Welcome families into the School Age before and after school program via Enrollment meetings.
  • Complete enrollment and re-enrollment functions, working closely with the site manager, transportation, and the intake department. Gather needed documentation and upload into Childplus database.
  • Assess for any potential needs the family may have for assistance with housing, utilities, food, clothing, or other kinds of support. Complete referrals for any needed services.
  • Maintain the structure and policies of the program through orientation of participants by reviewing program rules, policies, and case management supports.
  • Maintain accurate case records by documenting all services rendered including up to date case notes, telephone contact logs and referrals. Enter required data into the agency databases with reporting as required.
  • Maintain regular presence at school age sites in order to complete parental paperwork or provide case management tasks.
  • Advocate on behalf of parents and children, providing input into behavioral challenges, attendance problems, or other concerns.
  • Provide support and guidance to parents for themselves and their children. Maintain a positive relationship with the parents and the program.
  • Act as a liaison with the school social worker regarding the child and familyís needs, including concrete supports, family services, and Individual Education Plans.
  • Utilize curriculum and program supports to learn about and respond to learning needs, behavioral challenges, mental health and disability concerns within the program.   
  • Conduct regular case management meetings with site managers.
  • Recruit children and families to participate in the School Age program, including children with diagnosed disabilities.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other school age staff and CTI programs to provide positive support.
  • Assist with recruitment of families for donation programs, camp enrollment, and other opportunities for youth.
  • Provide emergency response management to address any crises or safety issues that may arise, utilizing CTI protocol.
  • Integrate a DE&I lens in all activities, encourage colleagues to engage in DE&I work, and contribute to our mission of building a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization for our employees, clients, and partners; requires ongoing investment in a personal and professional journey to understand identity and address unconscious bias, power, and privilege.

Successful candidate will possess:

  • 1-2 yearsí experience with education or human services.
  • Experience working with parents of, and/or children ages 5-13 is a must
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, Khmer or Arabic preferred.
  • Desire to work with low income, culturally diverse, and at-risk families and individuals.
  • Some experience with children with special needs a plus.
  • Excellent Customer Service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and people from the different racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages that make up CTIís clientele
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.
  • Must have evidence of full COVID-19 immunization or request for a religious or medical exemption by that date
  • CORI/DCF review prior to employment. ®
  • Excellent crisis management skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelorís Degree preferred, preferably in a Human Services or education related field.

LICENSES and CERTIFICATES:

Valid Driverís License
