Housing Search Specialist

Department: HCEC
Location: Lowell, MA

We are seeking a Housing Search Specialist who will be responsible for facilitating the coordination of re-housing services within CTI programs. The Housing Search Specialist will facilitate on-going communication between the client, housing authorities, property owners, community programs and partners to increase housing opportunities for clients through outreach to housing providers and the development of community partnerships.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate housing search and provide one on one housing search assistance with clients.
  • Work with assigned families and individuals on housing search activities including providing advocacy and negotiation with property owners on behalf of clients.
  • Work to identify new affordable housing stock through cultivating and maintaining relationships with property owners, housing authorities and other community organizations. Identify apartments for client placement that meet safety and health standards.
  • Develop proactive housing search strategies to address the needs of agency programs serving homeless families. Develop and maintain housing resources to assist clients in securing appropriate permanent housing.
  • Work collaboratively with various CTI programs which may include the Resource Center, Financial Education Center, Residential Services, Rental Assistance teams, to contribute to the development of re-housing plans. Assist Case Managers and representatives in aggressive housing search plans and coordinate follow-up services.
  • Responsible for assisting the family with stabilization which includes monthly check-ins, touch-points up to and including home visits.
  • Monitor rehousing plans and track clients’ progress towards goals. Deliver housing search workshops at various sites for clients and non-housing case managers.
  • Work with case managers to prevent and/or address clients’ barriers to rehousing.
  • Facilitate clients’ access to service providers in the area of rehousing and other needed serves within and across programs and agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience doing assessments, advocacy, and case management work in a human service field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of housing search techniques.
  • Ability to travel to clients homes to perform home visits.
  • Experience working with low-income, culturally diverse, and at-risk families.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to low-income individuals and families.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer software and data collection.
  • Excellent crisis management skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Khmer, English/Portuguese) preferred.
